Living in China is a visual experience. If you keep your eyes open and are alert to your surroundings, you may see things that strike you as interesting or unusual. This page is dedicated to some of those things.
Public Newspaper boards
The custom of posting daily newspapers in public places may have developed in the earlier years of the People's Republic of China, when people couldn't afford to buy daily newspapers and when newspapers contained mostly government-sponsored news, but though the variety of content and attractiveness of the newspapers has greatly expanded, the practice of making newspapers available to the public continues and the public displays draw many readers.
Seeking a mate the low-tech way
I have to say the first time I saw this kind of thing, I was amazed. The idea is that there are certain times and places where people can fill in personal information on a sheet of paper, which will then be posted in a public place for anyone to read and respond if they wish. I assume there might be a charge for this, I don't know, nor do I know how effective it is, but it is an interesting idea that, in the Internet age, there are still low tech methods of communication being employed.
Topiary
I have enjoyed the results of Chinese parks staff who create amazing designs with bushes and flowers. I hope to add to this small collection of photos, as the designs can be very creative and are lovely to see along city streets and in parks.
Doggy fashions
I am continually amazed at the dog costumes I see in China. Not only do they have costumes, but some even have shoes. I understand that the cost of dog attire and accessories is not cheap.

The Coke stools really caught my eye.They were found on a busy street just outside a Starbucks and a Costa Coffee shops
There isn't room on crowded Chinese streets and alleys, so trash trucks are often a lot smaller than those in the US.
And here's an even smaller trash bin motor mover.
What do you think might be in those small bamboo boxes? Would you guess crickets, sold as pets?
Big sweet potatoes and corn on the cob are baked on the street in these baking barrels. They make great afternoon snacks and are mostly available when the weather turns cold.
When the sun comes out, so do the heavy Chinese quilts, to bask in the sunshine. And public poles are also good for running a temporary clothes line to dry the day's wash. It's wintertime, so the heavy clothes will dry faster out in the sun than in the house.
When you need to hang out winter clothes, any handy tree will do.
Every holiday, or even a sunny weekend, is a good time to buy a balloon for the kids, so eager entrepreneurs buy up a batch of balloons and fill them with helium and off they go to the mall.
This three-wheeled vehicle isn't allowed on the main road, but China still has bicycle lanes; the owner of this vehicle has given tis lowly transport a cute personality.
